Facebook Talktime – Get Rs. 50 Talk Time Free For Registration
Facebook knows that in India, the growth comes from the mobile. The biggest social network has launched ‘Facebook Talktime’ in India and the program gives users Rs. 50 (~$1). All you have to do is visit the special URL: http://m.facebook.com/tt via mobile and get yourself registered. Once your registration is complete, you’ll be credited with Rs. 50 talk-time free of cost from Facebook. But the offer doesn’t end there, if you refer your friends and they sign up through that URL, you’ll get additional Rs. 50 talk time! No, there’s no cash to be made through this program, but Facebook Talktime is a great way to pile up talk time in your accounts.

The registration process is quite simple. Visit the above mentioned URL and follow the on-screen instructions. You don’t even need an email address to complete the process. Simply use your phone number and you’re good to go. Facebook says that they’ll take about 3 days of time to credit the amount to your mobile service provider’s account. The only trouble we see with this program is that users may create a lot of spam profiles on Facebook (we’d love to hear your thoughts on this) and make Facebook pay for the calls.
India has been very important market for Facebook and according to recent surveys, approximately 30% of the new registrations that Facebook gets from India are done through mobile devices. Facebook might be using this strategy to get more market share and push the number of registered users; which we believe isn’t required. Facebook has already reached a billion users and the count continues to grow.
Registered users, however, don’t have a linear impact on Facebook’s revenues. The company has been struggling to get the stock price back on track and after its much hyped IPO, Facebook stakeholders have lost lot of money. We believe Facebook might have to think about creating innovative ways to make money. They already have an active user-base which needs to be utilised. A lot of Indian companies have tried similar tricks to attract people – but getting them active on the site and add to the revenues (which comes mostly from web advertising) is a big challenge.
It seems that Facebook is trying to attract college students to its website. It’s going to be very interesting to see how Indian subscribers use this facility. We’d like to hear your thoughts and opinions and whether Facebook credited Rs. 50 to your account for signing up and referring your friends.
